Renforcer la finance inclusive : l'Université du Luxembourg au cœur de la professionnalisation du secteur

In January 2024, the 8th edition of the Certificate in Law and Regulation of Inclusive Finance took place at the University of Luxembourg. The training programme was co-organised by the University’s Faculty of Law, Economics, and Finance, the European Investment Bank Institute, and ADA. It was led by Professor Dirk Zetzsche – head of the ADA Chair – and aimed to strengthen the skills of professionals in the inclusive finance sector on critical topics such as inclusive finance regulation, sustainable finance, digital finance, investments, and social performance.

A commitment to skill enhancement

Laura Foschi – ADA director - opened the training by emphasising the importance of this executive programme: "By strengthening our commitment to the professionalisation of the sector, we can stimulate a profound transformation, significantly enhancing its capacity to improve the living conditions of vulnerable people.” - she declared. This statement underscores the need to enhance the skills of professionals who will contribute to advancing the inclusive finance sector and the economic betterment of the underprivileged population it serves.

An intensive and rich programme

For two weeks, 19 professionals aged 29 to 60 from 12 countries participated in this intensive training programme in Luxembourg. It was a platform for sharing the latest research, strengthening knowledge in inclusive finance regulation, and networking among peers from different countries.

One of the highlights of the first week was the course delivered by Laura Foschi on responsible, inclusive finance, social performance, and environmental management. "Our approach to the sector accountability must be deliberate and intentional, not accidental," Foschi insisted, advocating for a client-centred strategy to protect vulnerable populations.

The course guided the participants to integrate social and environmental objectives into the core missions of their organisations. It also presented tools and best practices to implement them effectively, including the Universal Standards for Social and Environmental Performance Management.

Towards a more sustainable finance

This certificate underscores the University of Luxembourg's and its partners' commitment to more inclusive and responsible finance. It represents a significant step towards a more sustainable and equitable financial sector.

The next edition is scheduled for 20 to 30 January 2025 in Luxembourg
