Cacao Embassy’s ‘good cocoa’: supporting the growth of young chocolate makers in Guatemala

For the three young Matute brothers, the Cacao Embassy journey began in the family kitchen. In 2018, Pablo, the youngest, was organising tourist visits to cocoa farms. To gain the farmers’ trust, he bought cocoa beans from them, which he stored at his parents’ home. However, the beans were difficult to preserve because of their strong smell.

Stakeholder survey: index-based insurance for farmers in Senegal

The SSNUP programme co-financed a project by impact investor Oikocredit that supported the microinsurance broker Inclusive Guarantee in distributing agricultural index insurance products to smallholder farmers in Senegal. SSNUP commissioned an in-depth survey to follow up the project based on interviews with smallholder farmers and other project stakeholders to gain a better understanding of the results and the impact.

Fundación Génesis Empresarial is the largest microfinance institution (MFI) in Guatemala. ADA and Génesis are currently setting up a two-year project to complement the client development paths with climate adaptation aspects to increase the resilience of vulnerable clients to the adverse effects of climate change.
